Italian gilt mirror from late 19th to early 20th century still has original mirror and nails holding the backing. The paper backing destroyed with age and replaced with new as seen. Heavy wire on back for hanging as good weight to the mirror.
Beautiful finish to the gilt dual framing which separates the mirror into sections with 8 blocked rosettes at the corners and center either side. The exterior frame is incised with decorative motifs at intervals. The interior wider frame has decorative carving as well. Handsome header with oval mirror flanked with swags, floral and carved rose atop. The lower portion embellished with oyster carving. Excellent for over a fireplace, chest, dresser or table.
The frames in excellent condition, the mirror has very minor lose of silvering in two blocks either side about 4 inches down from frame. Reflects very well as very thin lines of lose as opposed to a solid mass. Should not affect the use or attraction as just a mention of age.
Measures 53 H X 27 L X 3 D. Mirror itself inside frame 28 H.
