Pair of handsome walnut hand carved ornate capitals from the 1800's. Originally the capitals on a well made stairway. The round surface shows the nail holes where they connected to the spindles and the larger square side the difference in color outlines where the wood surface sat atop connecting to the handrail.
Evidently someone thought perfect for display of art sculptures, porcelain or garden items and turned them into plateaus. Can be turned both ways if a larger surface is needed. Pair of cache pots photo using the larger surface.
Ornate wood applique work below the round surface with a very few tiny pieces missing in a design. Tiny bead work below with 4 very handsome scroll work thick detailed designs seen beneath.
A very few minute hairline cracks in the wood collar ornate work from age. Overall fine condition, good weight and excellent patina.
