A near fine, beautiful copy of this most wonderful story that was eventually made into a film starring Gregory Peck, Jane Wyman and Claude Jarman Jr. First Edition published by Charles Scribner's Sons in New York in 1938 and illustrated by Edward Shenton. Original dust jacket with original bookmark inside listing this title and other titles by different authors. This Pulitzer Prize winning novel has all the first edition point: 1) copyright page has Scribner's "A"; 2) copyright page has Scribner's seal; 3) original price of $2.50 on dust jacket flap; 4) cream boards with green letter stamping and green vignette; 5) rear dust jacket panel describes book and states "Book of Month Club Ed." on bottom edge, however this is not a book club edition; 6) no mention of Pulitzer Prize; 7) review of South Moon Under and Golden Apples on inside of rear dust jacket. Dust jacket in very good condition with a few very small closed tears at spine tips and wear at corner tips. Small open tear at rear of jacket near bottom spine and very top of rear of jacket shows minor creasing. Book is near fine with cream board clean. Board gutters do show light soiling. Internally, text block is clean and pages supple and there are no loose, torn or missing pages and binding is tight. Blank end pages clean and black and white illustrations clean as well.
