Story by Ward Greene, published by Simon and Schuster, New York, NY in 1953 and black and white illustrations by Joe G. Rinaldi (no ISBN# indicated). Comes with the original dust jacket that has not been price clipped and shows the original $2.95 price at bottom of inside dust jacket flap. Forward by Walt Disney and insert in front of dust jacket that states "The original book on which Walt Disney's Motion Picture is based". A scarce first printing of a classic story that became an equally classic animated film by the Disney Studios. A near fine clean, tight copy of one of the most popular and well loved children's stories of all time. Dust jacket is clean, housed in an archival dust jacket protector and with a couple of very small closed tears near top edge front and back, minor edge wear at top and bottom spine tips and two small light scratches near top of picture of two dogs. Hard covers clean both front and rear, and quarter bound in blue cloth with a "WG" on the front board and a salmon colored cloth, black print spine. Boards show minor edge wear at bottom and lower spine tips. Internally, very clean, pages supple, no loose, torn or missing pages and binding is tight. Previous owner name, address and phone number on front free end page. A great copy of a timeless and classic children's story.
