This lovely oval box was made for the Lucretia Vanderbilt line of cosmetics produced in the late 1920's. During the Roaring Twenties, this box was manufactured by Scovill Manufacturing Company. The original Lucretia Vanderbilt items were characterized by their deep blue color and featured a butterfly and flowers in contrasting white. After a revamp of the company in 1931 the design retained the blue base but the accents were now in silver. After 1936 the colors were changed to cream and gold.
The lid of this highly collectible box has a metal "spring" extension to hold a powder puff. This piece is marked "Lucretia Vanderbilt New York".
This lovely vanity box has three silver tone ball feet. The hinged dresser box stands approximately 2 1/4" tall, is 3 3/4" long and 2 3/4" deep. This dresser set powder box is in good, used condition with some chipping of the blue paint on the lid and sides (see photos). A highly desirable powder box from a by-gone era.
