This vintage board game is called Draughts and is what we would call in America Checkers. Made by the G J Hayter & Co Bournemouth England, this was party of their Victory line. Hayter was best known for their jig-saw puzzles but branched out into board games in the 1950s. This board and piece set has an adorable label with two pixies.
The checker board and box have green exteriors with the illustrated paste-down labels. The playing pieces are brown and black. They appear to be an early plastic but do not test positive for Bakelite. The board has black and white squares with a green checker boarder.
This draughts game is in very good vintage condition. The game board has some mild lifting on the playing surface (see photos) and some mild soiling and scuffing. The exterior of the board has some spotting and minimal wear to the paste down label. The box of playing pieces has minimal wear to the label and some bumping, scuffing and tape residue along the edges. One side of the box has a small tear. The bottom of the box has a printed gum label that reads, "Selling Price Including Board" with 500 written in pen. The playing pieces themselves are in excellent condition and have no flaws that I can see.
The board measures approximately 14 1/2 inches square. The pieces box measures approximately 5 1/4 inches by 4 inches and each playing piece is 1 1/4 inches in diameter.
A lovely vintage game for playing or displaying.
