This amazing mid century mechanical rocket bank was called the Strato. Given out to children in the 50's who opened a bank account, the atomic space age bank has a rocket ship with a smaller red plane on a spring. When pulled back, a red button is pushed to release the spring and shoot coins into the spherical planet, pocked with craters. This vintage money bank was an advertising piece and has a gold label marked, "Fannin State Bank Holcombe Blvd of Fannin Houston, Texas" whose motto was "Two Drive-In Teller Windows" (not such a grand claim today!) on each side. "STRATO BANK" is embossed on the base of the bank. The bank was made by the Duro Mold & Mfg.Co..
This cast iron rocket bank is a glowing turquoise metallic color and measures approximately 8 1/2 inches long and is 3 inches wide at the widest point. This coin shooter bank is in very good+ condition with some scratching on one of the labels (see photos) and some very minor overall scratching.
An amazing space age collectible and the perfect addition to any mechanical bank collection, space decor or office decor.
