"Spiele-Magazin" translated to "Game Magazine" meaning a game set. This vintage boxed game set was made in Austria and features five game boards. The largest and most colorful board is for a horse race. The tri-fold board has bright a lithograph illustration of horses racing on a track with squares around the border. Three of the other boards are double sided for checkers, chess, Parcheesi, and many other games. The instructions for the games are written on the lid. The game titles translate, "Black Peter", "Lady", "Halma-Ecka" (which doesn't translate), "Fox and Hen". and "Horse Racing".
This multi game set includes playing pieces including white and black checkers; red, yellow, green, blue, turquoise, burnt orange and black bowling pin shaped pieces. The checkers have "J.S.J" over the letter "W" embossed on them.
The box lid is very colorful and pictures a woman with a cornucopia, a fox, chicken and jockey on a horse. The box is marked "Made in Austria" and "Vienna Verlag" on the bottom.
The horse racing board measures 11 3/4" wide by 22 1/2" in length. The other boards each measure approximately 11 5/8" x 11 1/2". This set is in excellent vintage condition. The boards are bright and clean. (I'm not sure it was ever played with.) The pieces are clean but I cannot grantee that they are all present as I don't know what the set came with originally. The box has tape on the outside and inside corners and some light scuffing on the edges. The bottom of the box has been repaired from a rip and has tape on all four sides. The lid has some light scuffing and some brown spots where it appears something was put on top of it. The colors are bright.
The box weighs 1 pound 14 ounces and measures 12 1/4" x 8 1/4" x 1 1/8".
This lithograph game board set would be great for display, as a gift or adding to your game collection.
