Two vintage miniature dollhouse rugs for your doll's house. Both of these carpets were tobacco promotions given away at the turn of the century. One is a "silkie" and the other is what as known as a tobacco felt.
The "silkie" carpet features a Turkish rug design with a brown background, orange red, blue and beige interior and brown silk fringe on each end. The felt is a Native American diamond design in red, gold, brown and blue. This rug has no fringe on the ends.
Measurements: Fringed Rug: 7 inches by 4 inches Felt Rug: 5 3/8 inches by 4 3/4 inches
The felt rug has markings on one edge reading, "3rd District of N.T., Factory No. 2153". The other carpet has no markings. Both rugs are in excellent vintage condition. The felt rug has one or two stray strings but this does not affect the appearance or stability of the rug.
"Nineteenth and early 20th century tobacco companies had some unique ways of promoting their products. These promotions made possible the lesser-known practice of sewing quilts and other decorative items out of silk and flannel tobacco premiums." from "womenfolk" web site.
