"Elson Grammar School Reader Book One" was written by Willliam Elson and Christine Keck. It was published by the well known educational publisher Scott, Foresman and Company and copyrighted in 1911. The book contains sections including "Patriotism", "Children" and "Fables" to name a few. This early reader is not illustrated but has wonderful stories.
The beginning entitled "Course In Reading" says...selections are grouped according to theme or authorship". It goes on to suggest which parts of the book to use during which part of the year (i.e. First Half-year).
The book has brown cloth covers with black embossed decoration and title. It is in fair vintage condition. There is some wear to the cover as well as some bumping and fraying. The inside pages have some pencil markings on a few pages. A wonderful example of some of Scott, Forsemans earliest books.
