"Mother Goose The Volland Edition" was published in 1915 and is highly sought after by children's book collectors. Volland was one of the best publishers of children's books. The quality, illustrators, and authors were all top-notch. So much so, that Volland only published books until 1925. Before and after their book endeavor they mainly published ephemera goods like bridge tallies, greeting cards, mother's poems, and other illustrated paper items.
This early Mother Goose edition was "re-arranged and Edited in this form by Eulalie Osgood Grover and illustrated by Frederick Richardson". The pictures do not do justice to the vibrant illustrations. Each page has a full-page, full-color illustration with the framed text of the rhyme. Each page is a different rhyme.
This fabulous book is unpaginated and has an index of illustrations in the back. A paste-down illustration adorns the front green cloth board. This rare children's book is in good vintage condition. The cover has scuffing of the illustration as well a bumping on the corners and light fraying at the corners and spine (see photos). The interior has an inscription on the inside end-paper. There are a few pages that have torn at the bottom (see photos) as well as a bit of creasing on a page or two.
