"Farm Festivals" was written by Will Carleton and published in 1881 by Harper & Brothers. The book is full of intricate engravings by various artists. Mr. Carleton's poetry captures the essence of what farm life was like in the late 1800s.
The Festival of Reminiscence - or The Pioneer Meeting
The Festival of Praise - or Thanksgiving day
The Festival of Good Cheer - or Christmas Monologues
The Festival of Clamor - or The Town Meeting
The Festival of Reunion - or The Golden Wedding
....as well as several more.
The condition of this book is amazing considering its age. The antique book has brown cloth boards with a black and gilded illustration and title. The spine has a gilded title in a fanciful font. The cover has very minimal bumping at the corners as well as mild shelf-wear on the spine. The #73 is printed in ink on the spine and the first inside page (although this was not a library book). An inscription on the brown end-papers reads "Xmas 1897 L". The pages are crisp and clean and the binding is tight. This antique book will be shipped Media Mail unless otherwise requested.
This is a wonderful look at rural life in America at the turn of the 19th century and sure to be a well-loved gift for any poetry collector.
