"Curfew Must Not Ring To-Night" was written by Rosa Harwick Thorpe. The Victorian era illustrated book was copyrighted 1882 and is a first edition. The antique book features 18 black and white illustrations. Rosa Thorpe wrote this poem at the age of 16 when she was supposed to be studying math. A newspaper clip left inside the book has a picture of Mrs. Thorpe sixty years after she wrote it.
The hard-cover book has green cloth boards with a black illustration and gilded title. The cover has some bumping on the corners and shelf-ware along the top and bottom of the spine. The end-papers have a sweet, all-over floral design. The inside cover has some paper missing, a yellow stain from where the newspaper article was kept and an inscription in ink. The inside pages are minimally yellowed and the stitched binding is tight. The page edges are gilded on all three edges. The book will be shipped Media Mail unless otherwise requested.
This rare and very collectible antique book would make a perfect gift for any poetry enthusiast or antique book collector.
