"The Littlest House" was written by Elizabeth Coatsworth and illustrated by Marguerite Davis. This out of print children's book was published by MacMillan Company and copyrighted 1940. This is a first edition, fourth printing dated October, 1944.

The story is illustrated with blue colored drawings both full-page as well as accented throughout the book.

"The Littlest House", tells the story of how three children take care of a tiny house they have been given for a playhouse. The children's efforts and the details of fixing up a real house are fascinating to those of us who like houses. Each chapter is introduced with one of Coatsworth's lyrical poems, and the slipcover and illustrations by Marguerite Davis give a detailed record of the period from her own sketches in the little town of Hingham, Massachusetts, where the author lived with her family.

This vintage book has its original dust jacket and was at one time a library book as indicated on the spine of the dust jacket with a very light label. The cover may have been re-printed but it is done so in color as the original dust jacket would have been. There is no other indication that this is an ex-library book. Ironically, a previous owner, Diane Stoddard, has stamped her name and address on the right end-paper and her address is in the same city in which the illustrator lived -- Hingham, MA.

The book has blue cloth boards with some wear on the edges and bumping on the corners. Besides the name stamped on the right end-paper there is a small label reading, "Lauriat's Books, Franklin St, Boston". Otherwise the pages are clean and the binding is tight. This collectible children's book measures approximately 8 inches by 6 1/2 inches and will be shipped Media Mail unless otherwise requested.

A very collectible and fun book to give as a gift or add to your library.
