"Rhymes and Jingles, Jingles and Rhymes" was written by Marjorie Dawson and illustrated by Julia Kyle Hildreth. Published by Isaac H Blanchard it was copyrighted 1899.
This delightful child's book features well known, as well as less known, children's songs and rhymes put to music accompaniment and adorned with a lovely engraving.
Popular when piano playing was the evening's entertainment in most homes, this book would have been very popular with both the singer and the musician.
Songs include: Santa Claus March Cinderella Gavotte The House That Jack Built Little Boy Blue The Story Of Blue Beard I Saw A Ship A-Sailing In Winter Time (the only song without an illustration) Little Bo-Peep Mistress Mary Beauty and the Beast Serenade To Sleeping Beauty The Fairies Reel
The oversized, hard-cover music book has paste-down illustrated board covers with a blue cloth spine. The book is in good condition, especially considering its age. There is some scuffing and very light soiling on the front cover and a few pieces of he cover's paper have lifted. There is an inscription on the title page dated 1903. The few of the pages have a smudge from turning pages while playing and the paper is mildly yellowed. The binding is tight. There is what looks like a a paper clip at the top and bottom of the pages. This seems to have been part of the binding. Over the years a small amount of rust has developed but it does not affect the binding or the overall appearance of the book. The book measures approximately 13 inches by 10 inches and will be shipped Media Mail unless otherwise requested.
A sweet, antique music book. Ideal for any collection or music history buff.
