This edition of "The Water Babies" was written by Charles Kingsley and illustrated by Edwardian artist, Harry G. Theaker. This is a Gallery Books reprint copyrighted 1990. This lovely children's storybook tells the tale of little Tom, the chimney sweep. Tom escapes from his cruel master, falls into a river and is turned into a water baby. He befriends all kinds of river creatures and has all types of adventures. He meets fairies and dragonflies that speak, otters and water snakes dressed in velvet, and of course, the thousands of happy, laughing water babies who have taken refuge in the river.
This hard cover, vintage book has its original dust jacket. The dust jacket is in fair condition with creasing and tears along the edges and spine. The book itself is in very good+ condition. It has red cloth boards with clean pages, no yellowing, a tight binding and bright illustrations. There are 32 full color illustrations on glossy paper. The text is on matte-finish paper. There are also black and white illustrations dotted here and there throughout the book. The illustrated storybook measures approximately 10 inches by 7 3/4 inches and will be shipped Media Mail unless otherwise requested.
