"The New Book Of Etiquette" was written by Lillian Eichler and published by Garden City Publishing Company. Copyrighted 1934, this revised edition explains the "niceties of behavior which stamp one as well-bred", according to the preface.
This vintage etiquette book is divided into seven sections:
The Basic Fundamentals
The Ceremonial Aspect
Notes For An Epicure
Etiquette for Children
Also included in the appendix are "Etiquette At Washington, D.C" and "Foreign words and Phrases In Frequent Usage".
This vintage book is a how-to in social etiquette training both at home and in the office. Peppered throughout the book are black and white, full page photographs of examples of proper table settings, glassware usage and more. Correct dress, getting ahead in business, and invitation etiquette are all included. This book is a wonderful look at social norms that were desired in the 1930s as well as today.
This hard cover book has blue cloth boards with a gilded spine title and decoration. The book is in good vintage condition. There is some light soiling and spotting on the front cover and bumping at the corners. The pages are clean and minimally yellowed. The end-papers have turned yellow from a reaction in the paper from the glue used. The book measures 8 1/4 inches by 5 1/2 inches and will be shipped Media Mail unless otherwise requested.
A great manners book that would be useful in understanding wedding etiquette as well as a look into the social expectations of the early 20th century.
