"The Begging Bear" was written by Philip Schuyler Allen and illustrated by Louis Moe. This highly collectible children's book has wonderful full color illustrations throughout. Published by Reilly and Lee Company and copyrighted 1932 this is a first edition of this rare kid book. The storybook has its original red textured cloth cover with a full color paste down illustration on the front. The vintage book has Illustrated endpapers, twenty superb full-page color illustrations, two smaller size color illustrations and line drawings throughout.
Louis Moe (1857 – 1945) was a Norwegian painter, illustrator and writer who settled in Denmark. He is known for his many book illustrations, illustrated classical works, fairytales, children's books and books on mythology, and contributed to children's magazines and weekly magazines.
This RARE first edition is in very good vintage condition. The front cover has some very mild bumping on the corners and extremely light scuffing on the paste-down illustration. The back cover has a light spot on the back. The interior pages are clean and the binding is tight. All the color plates are present and in good condition. The book measures 12 inches by 9 1/2 inches and will be shipped Priority Mail unless otherwise requested.
