"Put Another Nickel In -- A History of Coin Operated Pianos and Orchestrions" was written by Q David Bowers. This nostalgia book lays out the history of Nickelodeons and other mechanical musical instruments. Also called Musical Boxes, these automatic pianos were everywhere in the 1920s. Many Victorian homes had these automatic pianos , which with embellishments added were known as orchestions. Manufacturers and instruments had names included Wurlitzer, Tonophone and The Paganini. The book contains wonderful illustrations of the instruments as well as black and white reproductions of the instruments in homes, churches and businesses as well as advertisements that were produced to entice families into putting these wonders in their homes.
This over-sized, hard cover book is complete with its dust jacket. Published in 1966 by Bonanza Books, this vintage music history book is in very good condition. The pages are clean and the binding is tight. There is a gold label on the inside front cover. The dust jacket is in very good condition with some very mild bumping at the corers and a small spot of lifting on the bottom right corner (see photos). This collectible book measures 11 1/4 by 8 3/4 inches and will be shipped Media Mail unless otherwise requested.
