"Riley Child Rhymes With Hoosier Pictures" was written by James Whitcomb Riley and illustrated by Will Vawter. This 1905 children's book was published by The Bobbs Merrill Company. This charming book includes 39 of James Whitcomb Riley's signature poems, such as "Old Aunt Mary's," "Little Orphant Annie," and "The Raggedy Man." Graced by noted Brown County artist Will Vater's illustrations of scenes such as "The Nine Goblins," "The Circus Day Parade," and "Barefoot, Hungry, Lean Ornery Boys,"
Profusely illustrated with black and white full page illustrations as well as drawings at the head and tail of some poems, this collectors book is a tour de force of book making and design at the beginning of the 20th century. The hard cover book features green cloth boards. The cover board shows 2 children (embossed) against a gilt background with gilt lettering on front board. The spine has gilt lettering and a gilt kite running the length of the spine.
This beautiful antiquarian book is in very good condition. There is some mild bumping on the corners and some shelf wear to the top and bottom of the spine. There is an inscription dates 1909 as well as an ex libris plate on the inside cover. The pages are bright with some very mild soiling on a couple of pages. The binding is tight.
A fabulous collectors book or for your children's literature collection.
