"Girls' Crystal Annual 1959" is an early graphic novel collection geared towards teen and pre-teen girls. Contents include book type, or written stories as well as comic strip, or graphic novel "picture" stories. Stories include the usual mix of girl's stories of adventure, mystery and stories based on strong female characters. The one exception to this is the Noel Raymond series of detective stories, which unusually featured a male as the hero in a girl's annual.
There are full color, as well as black and white illustrations throughout the book. The Girls' Crystal Annual was an off shoot of "The Girls' Crystal" paper, which was first published in 1939 and ran until the late seventies. It was published by The Amalgamated Press based at Fleetway House in Farringdon Street, London.
This hardcover book has a paste down illustrated front and back cover with a red cloth spine as well as illustrated end-papers. The book is in good vintage condition with mildly yellowed pates and a tight binding. There is some staining and scuffing on the covers as well as some spotting and wear to the red cloth on the spine. The edges of the covers have some lifting and bumping. The book measures approximately 10 3/4 inches by 7 3/4 inches.
A great girls reading book for your collection or for the graphic novel loving kid in your life.
