"The Oz Scrapbook" is a literary history book that takes an insider's look at America's most famous and most enduring fairyland -- the Land Of Oz. First appearing in 1900 as a book, it was followed by thirty-nine other Oz books (13 by L. Frank Baum), as well as plays, movies and tv shows inspired by the original book and seen around the world. This lovely vintage art book contains more than 250 pictures--including sixteen pages in full color--recapturing all the magic of the land. Included are original illustrations, jackets, end papers from the oz books as well as photographs of scenes from Oz's many appearances on stage, screen and television - from the 1902 smash-hit musical "The Wizard of Oz" to "The Wiz", silent films and of course the 1939 MGM classic. Also included are some of the by-products of America's Ozmania -- toys, games, lamps, wallpaper, comic strips, playing cards, figurines, puppets, peanut-butter jars, badges and many more.
The authors tell the whole story of how Oz was "discovered", what various illustrators and the authors who came after Baum added to it, and also suggestions for the continuing appeal of the story and its creator.
