"Tales Told In Holland" was edited by Olive Beaupre Miller and illustrated by Maud and Miska Petersham. This vintage book was published by The Book House For Children and was copyrighted in 1926. This is part of the Bookhouse Collection aimed at giving children a set of books to read from the cradle through their school years. "Tales Told In Holland" was part of a world country series entitled, "My Travelship" that accompanied the book collection.
This lovely piece of childrens' literature features tales told in Holland from the greatest Dutch poets and a few old Dutch nursery rhymes, naive and nonsensical as our English rhymes, and contrasting interestingly with the far more sophisticated rhymes of the French. There is one story from each of the eleven Dutch Provinces The stories are gloriously illustrated by Maud and Miska Petersham who have a delightful style that made them one of the most beloved illustrators of their time.
This vintage book is in good condition. It has orange cloth covers with a paste-down illustration and gilded title. There is mild fraying on the outside spine fabric and bumped corners. A child has written his name in pencil on the inside front cover end-paper. The inside pages are clean and minimally yellowed and the binding is tight.
A lovely vintage book to share with the children in your life or bring back memories of your own childhood.
