"The Golden Christmas Manger" was designed and illustrated by Helen Sewell. Published in 1948 this boxed set contains a book printed with the music for "Away in the Manger" as well as cut out pieces for a full creche as well as a pop-up manger to place the pieces in. This folding Christmas Manger includes all the figures (already cut out). The book has beautiful full color illustrations accented with gilt throughout.
The book gives directions for making the pop up manger: "In this book you will find the Christmas story and cutout pictures of Mary and Joseph, the Baby Jesus, the animals in the stable, the Wise Men the shepherds, and the angels. First you will want to set up the stable itself. Then you can cut out the figures and stand them up around it. In this way you will make a creche, or model of the Christmas scene. The pictures in the middle of the book and on the next-to-last page will suggest to you ways of arranging the figures."
The book comes in its original illustrated box and is complete with the figures already cut out. The box is flattened with tearing at the corners and scuffing on the sides. The book and manger set are in very good, unused condition. It appears someone cut out the pieces but never set them up as the fold lines are un-creased. The manger has some slight bending at the edges of the roof from storage and being put in the box. When extended the manger measures approximately 19 1/2" in width, stands 9" tall and is 8 1/2" deep. The box measures 10" x 9 1/2".
A great piece of Holiday decor to share with your loved ones for years to come.
