"The Peter Max Land Of Yellow" vintage art book was published by Franklin Watts and copyrighted 1970. This amazing Pop Art book has brilliant full color illustrations on every page. It begins, "The sunshine queen said to the purple king "fifty pounds of red you must bring to give to the prince of shadowlands or all the colors he demands....". The king goes on to fly through the land collecting colors as he goes.
This vintage art book was part of a series of three for the colors red, blue and yellow. Peter Max is an American illustrator and graphic artist currently living in New York City. He's known for his use of psychedelic shapes and color palettes, spectra in his work, and the counter-culture, pop-art-focused nature of his art.
His work has been featured in various popular publications, events, and various museums and galleries worldwide. Examples of his commissions include being the official artist of the 1994 World Cup, painting of the hull art of a Norwegian Cruise Line, and border murals along entry points to the USA from Canada and Mexico.
This vintage first edition book has laminated board covers and is in very good vintage condition. It has lightly bumped corners and some mild chipping on the top and bottom of the spine as well as some extremely mild soiling on the front cover. The pages are clean and the binding is tight. The book measures 11 1/4" x 8 3/4" and weighs approximately 14 ounces.
