"The Sugar-Plum Tree and Other Verses" by Eugene Field is illustrated by Fern Bisel Peat. This amazing illustrator does exceptional full color as well as black and white drawings of children to accompany the verses in this vintage book. Published in 1930 by The Saalfield Publishing Company, this magnificent illustrated children's book includes pictures of the gingham cat and dog, dolls, faires and babies in their cradles.
This is one of my favorite children's book illustrators. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1893, Mrs. Peat attended Ohio Wesleyan University. She was an accomplished author and illustrator and together with her husband she founded and ran a successful interior decorating studio specializing in designing children’s rooms, murals, textiles and wallpaper. She also designed several children’s wards, hospitals and orphanages.
This hard cover vintage book has illustrated board covers. The cloth on the spine has been torn off and the cover has soiling and chipping. The inside pages are clean and minimally yellowed and the binding is tight. This would be a fabulous book to share with the little ones in your life or to use as decor in a nursery or playroom. The book measures 12" x 9 1/4" and weighs approximately 1 pound 8 ounces.
