Life Magazine dated March 16, 1911 Volume LVII No. 1481. This vintage magazine features a cover by Coles Phillips entitled "Forward and Back". It pictures two women pulling on the handles of a clock the younger one trying to push time forward the older one trying to push it back.
Contents include a caricature of "Life's Famous World Wide Committee trying to decide on a "Booby Prize" for the LIFE'S great auto race; the anti-magazine bill; "Girls in College"; "Life's Fashion Reform League" and a center spread entitled, "Fido's Birthday" exemplifying how much dog owners resemble their pets.
Vintage advertising includes a color ad on the back cover for Pall Mall cigarettes, Franklin Cars, Rambler Motor Cars, Packard Motor Cars, Whitman's Candy and Gillette Safety Razors to name just a few.
The magazine is full of wonderful illustrations from cartoon like characters to engraved portraits.
This is not the Life magazine of the 50's and 60's with a lot of photographic works. The early Life Magazine was satirical, using cartoons, illustrations and words to parody the times. Mark Twain was a frequent target of the lampooning and the drama critic was known for his dislike of most of the Broadway plays of the day.
This vintage magazine is in good condition with a crease in the middle of the front cover a dog eared back three pages including the back cover. The back cover also has a small piece missing on the edge.
