"Currier & Ives - Printmakers to the American People" was published in 1942 by Doubleday, Doran & Co. This first edition book is filled with 192 amazing plates many of them full colored. Documented is the wonderful history of these world-renowned print makers.
In the introduction Mr. Peters writes, "The Currier & Ives pints covered a wide variety of subject mater, from comics to reproductions of oil paintings by the finest artists of the day, from sentimental scenes to portraits of the great...Currier & Ives pictured their own times with meticulous accuracy of detail, without "artiness," and with no thought of appealing to any but their own immediate market. They gave the public pictures that were easy to understand and appreciate, pictures that were typically American, and pictures not only with subjects that were within the knowledge and experience of the average man but at prices that were within the range of his pocketbook."
This vintage book has grey cloth covers with a paste-down illustration and title. The book is in fair/good condition with some wear to the cloth cover. The pages are minimally yellowed. The middle pages have staining(see photos). The binding is tight and the other pages are clean.
A great piece of history.
