Carved Indian Rosewood Sheesham Display Pedestal Stand Inlaid Top India.
This vintage ornately hand carved display pedestal stand was made in India of Sheesham wood, better known as Indian Rosewood. It comes in 2 pieces, a round top carved in a floral pattern with a center inlaid starburst design of white material, possibly bone. The underside of the top has 6 wood pieces held in place by tiny nails that fit the 3 tripod legs perfectly to hold the stand upright. The 3 hinged legs are also carved in an open work style and have 4 metal hinges holding them together and allowing them to fold flat. This makes it incredibly stable when put together and allows for easy storage when folded.
From my Internet research, Sheesham is essentially a type of rosewood. It is sourced from the Dalbergia sissoo species of trees which is more commonly known as Indian Rosewood. It is commonly used for making furniture, especially cabinets. This is mainly due to the fact that the wood is highly durable and long lasting.
Display top measures 6-inches diameter and is 3/8-inch thick; each leg is 6-inches tall. When top and legs are put together, overall the stand measures 6-1/4-inches.
