This large round, vintage mortar and pestle is made of hand turned Maple wood with a lovely grain and patina. The mortar has six rows of hand turned ribs and the heavy bottomed pestle has a slender shaped handle with two turned rings around the top.

The unique mortar is slightly out of round and measures 5-3/4 inches wide by 6-3/8 inches long by 3 inches tall and sits on a 1/4-inch high footed base, making it 3-1/4 inches tall overall. The pestle measures 7-3/8 inches long with heavy end measuring 2-7/8 inches diameter; slender end is 7/8-inch diameter at the tip.

Overall condition is excellent with no cracks or chips; both pieces have a nice smooth, sealed finish but mortar appears to have some surface spotting (possibly from water?) and has dark wood inside the bottom surface that goes through to the underside and footed base. I can't tell if that's the wood or staining, but it adds to its charm.

Wonderful vintage mortar and pestle set with lots of character!
