This handsome, vintage, all white ceramic Toby Pitcher or Mug depicts a smiling, round-looking elderly Colonial gentleman holding a mug or stein in one hand and his smoking pipe in the other. He looks comfortable sitting in a narrow high-back chair and wears a waistcoat, boots, and a large three-cornered hat, which is the pouring spout, and his hair is tied into a long pony tail, tied with a bow on the end.
This small pitcher or large mug measures 5-3/4 inches tall, spout measures 3-7/8 inches wide and base is 2 inches by 3 inches. Toby mugs and pitchers became popular in the 1700's and each one is unique and interesting. This one is no exception! It has no mark as to maker, but has the initials, "R. G." is imprinted on the bottom.
In excellent vintage condition with finely molded details, and has no cracks or crazing but has a tiny chip on the inside rim of hat and a small edge chip on the back right corner of hat; neither detracts from its overall appearance. Displays nicely and would be perfect for your Toby collection!
