According to a recent article in a decorator's magazine: "Europeans have long known the soothing value of blue and white china--and Americans are still far behind." Whether that statement is true or not, it is true that blue & white are calming colors and that there is a multitude of European dinnerware patterns in this color set.
This pattern known as Strawflower by Winterling is very similar to the Franciscan Pattern Denmark and Myott's Finlandia. The "Delft" blue design is a simple yet elegant pattern of lines, scrolls, and flowers.
This straight sided covered sugar carries the Winterling Bavaria Germany mark that was in use from the 1950's to 2000. The estimated date of this design is the 1970's to early 1980's. The sugar is 4 1/4" tall x 5 3/4" wide-- the measurements include the lid and knob and the arching handles. No nicks, chips, cracks or crazing. Excellent Condition .
