Most likely Victorian, this box has a black covering of an embossed and leathered paper that is similar to the covering found on many trunks from that era. A centered embossed medallion and a strips of patterned embossing decorates the lid. There is significant peeling and crumbling of the cover which renders it as more of a decorative item than one to be handled and used frequently. The peeling black cover certainly adds character. The lacquered wood inside of the box has retained it's glossy finish. The box measures 7 5/8" x 3 3/4" .
