You don't have to be a smoker to like pretty! In the 1950's when ashtrays were so heavily used, ladies preferred to have a "pretty" ashtray for after dinner smokers in the dining room or as needed in their living room. Now they are often used to hold pillar candles or candy and yes...even still as ashtrays because smokers also still like pretty. This mid-century ashtray has a cigarette holder at each corner that is gilded. A gold trim is also present (with some wear) around the very edge. The centered blooming roses are coupled with rose buds. The roses are more of a wine color instead of a bright red. Measuring 5 1/8" square there are no nicks chips or breaks.
