Johnson Brothers of Staffordshire England, known for their transfer ware scenery patterns, manufactured this lovely pattern featuring a British Castle. This color is usually referred to as pink though the design is more of a burgundy color on the creamy ivory background. This pattern was also manufactured in blue. The castle in the background is surrounded by water while the foreground is a floral scene. The pattern carries a roped and scalloped edge. The pieces are marked "Castle on The Lake" and carry the Johnson Bros name, England, and a patent number. This pattern was manufactured from 1939 to 1970.
