This Homer Laughlin covered sugar is in the popular "Poppy & Rose" pattern in the Kwaker Shape. The "modern" shaped angular handles are typical of the hollow ware of the Kwaker shape. The sugar is in Excellent Condition without nicks, chips, cracks or crazing. The covered sugars are somewhat difficult to find. Measuring 7" wide from the outer corner of either handle and approximately 4" tall the sugar carries the floral pattern on both sides. The design on the front is made to be a bit fuller than the one on the back. The floral designs remain sharp and bright.
This Poppy & Rose design was introduced by Homer Laughlin in the 1930's and continued in production through the mid-1950's. This sugar carries a manufacture date of 1952 within the code on the bottom. This pattern is perhaps one of the most popular Homer Laughlin designs beyond their Fiesta and most often found on the Kwaker shape.
The design of Orange Poppies, Yellow Roses, and Black Leaves by Homer Laughlin is informally known as "Poppy & Rose" by most collectors, "Olivia" by others, and tagged as "Ivora" by some.
