Homer Laughlin Poppy & Rose Kwaker Covered Sugar
This Homer Laughlin covered Sugar is in the popular "Poppy & Rose" pattern and in the Kwaker Shape. The "modern" shaped angular handle is typical of the hollow ware of the Kwaker shape. The sugar is in Excellent Condition without nicks, chips, cracks, or crazing!
The covered sugar is one of the more difficult pieces to find. The date on the base of the sugar with the HLC mark indicates it was made in 1956. The sugar is 7" wide from the outer corner of either handle and approximately 4" tall. The design on the front of the sugar is made a bit fuller than the floral design on the back. The yellow and orange flowers with green and black accenting leaves remain sharp, bright, and intact.
This Poppy & Rose design was introduced by Homer Laughlin in the 1930's and continued in production through the mid-1950's. This pattern is perhaps one of the most popular Homer Laughlin designs beyond their Fiesta and most often found on the Kwaker shape.
The design of Orange Poppies, Yellow Roses, and Black Leaves by Homer Laughlin is informally known as "Poppy & Rose" by most collectors, "Olivia" by others, and tagged as "Ivora" by some.
The last two photos show a creamer with the sugar that is available at the time of this listing. You may wish to see other items in this pattern (also in this shop) and create your own place settings. (Just do a search for Laughlin Poppy.) All items can be safely combined for a savings on shipping.
