The Blue Willow Pattern has been a favored design world wide and said to be the most prolific design among potters from around the globe. The Oriental Design reportedly originated in China. Usually, like its name, the pattern is found in the creamy white and blue but it has also been manufactured in other colors as well. The numerous Willow designs usually incorporate a willow tree, an orange or apple tree, two birds, people on a bridge, a fence, a boat and a tea house (or pagoda). The design was originally brought to the states from England in the 1700's. In the USA, Homer Laughlin Pottery began manufacture of this Willow shape and pattern in 1935.
These dessert (or Bread & Butter) plates carry the Laughlin mark underneath with dates of 1947 and one too smudged to read. All four plates are in excellent condition. From manufacture, some of the blue coloring from the design is also found on the bottom of the plates and this seems to be typical of this pattern. No cracks, nicks, or chips found on either plate
The price is for FOUR.
You may wish to see other pieces in the Blue Willow within this shop. All orders will be combined for shipping and only actual shipping cost is charged.
