This vintage hand held mirror has a Bakelite look but does not pass the "smell" test for Catalin or Bakelite. The handle and mirror frame is certainly an earlier plastic that is surprisingly heavy--perhaps Lucite or some other type of Resin based plastic. The actual oval mirror is beveled and the glass is in Excellent Condition without loss of silver or streaking noted. The back of the mirror frame and handle has an extra decorative layer of plastic with that ever popular Tortoiseshell appearance. The "Tortoise" has some very light crackling or crazing and feels somewhat rough to the touch though it has a glossy satin like finish. There is very, very, slight warping of the handle that is barely notable. The vintage mirror is an excellent, solid, useful, and attractive vanity piece for male or female.
It measures 13 1/4" x 4 5/8".
