Rare is not a word often found in the descriptions within this shop but this Hazel Atlas Platonite design truly is Rare. Ovide Platonite White with Fired On Designs was produced by Hazel Atlas Glass in the early 1950's. You may wish to see a separate listing for a complete set of this dinnerware also in this shop.
In Excellent Condition, this platter appears as unused, glossy, shiny, and with the pattern of red flowers intact. As is often the case with Hazel Atlas, the platter is unmarked. There are a couple of swirling straw marks within the glass from manufacture but no signs of use. The platter measures 11 3/4" x 9 3/8".

This glassware is thick and heavy. The platter weighs just under 2 pounds (unpackaged weight.)

HISTORY: Hazel Atlas produced this Ovide shape beginning in the 1930's. The thicker Platonite White with fired on designs using the Ovide shape were produced in the 1950's. This shape and several of the "Ovide Platonite with Designs" are pictured in Gene Florence's guide for Hazel Atlas (page 199) and also seen in Florence's ; "Depression Glass" (page 164 of the 16th edition).
