Rare is not a word often found in the descriptions within this shop but this truly is a Very Rare set of OVIDE, Platonite White, dinnerware by Hazel Atlas Glass that were produced in the early 1950's. Included are Three Serving Pieces and a COMPLETE Service for SIX that appear as new:
(6) 9" Dinner Plates
(6) 6" Sherbet Plates (Bread & Butter or Dessert Size)
(6) 4 3/4" Fruit / Berry Bowls *only 5 shown in photo but there are six
(1) Open Sugar
(1) 11" ROUND PLATTER
(1) Deep 9" Serving Bowl
As is often the case with Hazel Atlas, these dishes are unmarked. The cup handles and the deco style creamer, and sugar are perhaps the most distinctive pieces within the Ovide shape and are easily recognized. Hazel Atlas produced this Ovide shape beginning in the 1930's. The thicker Platonite White with fired on designs in the Ovide shape were produced in the 1950's. This shape and several of the "Ovide Platonite with Designs" are pictured in Gene Florence's guide for Hazel Atlas (page 199) and also seen in Florence's ; "Depression Glass" (page 164 of the 16th edition). Other red designs found on the Hazel Atlas Platonite White include a Red Bow Pattern, a Red Bird Design, a Red Tulip Pattern and more.
These are thick, heavy glass and the weight of the 33 pieces determines the shipping cost. Other items from this pattern will be listed separately to keep these affordable. If you wish to combine other items to this order, shipping will be combined for your savings.
