Hazel Atlas manufactured a rainbow of colors in their Moderntone pattern. The design of concentric rings is simple but lovely in its own right. The colors ranged from pastels to darker primary colors. Most collectors collect either; all of one color, or all pastels, or all primary colors. The colors are fired on over a milk white glass background that Hazel Atlas dubbed as Platonite. The fired on colors of the Moderntone found now (60 plus years after manufacture) quite often show utensil marks and scratches from use and wear.
The Moderntone pastel pinks came in a light Pink as well as this Shell Pink. Overall the color on this plate remains glossy and intact but it does have a few scratches particularly noted within the center. As indicated by the photos, the flaws are more or less conspicuous depending on the angle of lighting. Still nice for display or as a replacement within a set, the "almost 9 inch" dinner plate is without chips, breaks, or discoloration. As is often the case with Hazel Atlas glassware, the back of the plate does not carry the logo but remains smooth and white.
The last two photos show this plate with other Moderntone Pastel plates. The green plate as well as the smaller shell pink plate are listed separately in this shop.
