Published in 1946 by The Macmillan Company, this early edition of "The Screwtape Letters" remains in very good condition.
The well known author; C.S. Lewis who also authored; "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "Mere Christianity," wrote this satirical novel as a series of letters. The letters are written by a senior Demon; Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood, who was considered to be a junior tempter. Lewis utilizes Screwtape to show the subtle wiles of distracting a Christian to lure him away from his purpose and make him ineffective. As is typical of Lewis' fiction there are many levels of meaning behind his penned words. An important, though sometimes hard, read for those of the Christian faith.
This edition was dedicated to his long time friend J.R.R. Tolkien (author of The Hobbit). The red hardboard cover shows wear on the corners and spine. All of the pages and the cover are fully intact. The only markings found are on the inside cover where a previous owner neatly penned their name (see photo). Light age discoloration of the pages typical of the books age.
