This lovely hand carved 14k gold whitby jet brooch features a star shaped panel centrally, which is hand carved with a genuine sea pearl, surround with tiny silver beads.
The seed pearl represent tear and the black background represents a period of mourning.
The reverse of brooch is the frame and inserts.In the day, these would have been perhaps a lock of hair from a deceased loved one, or perhaps a photo.
There are no hallmarks but gold has been tested and turned out to be at least 14 carat gold.
The back is a C-catch pin which works well and still with good tension , it made from sterling silver.
Measurement: 13/16”(20mm)in diameter.
Total weight: 4.66grams.
Condition : very good antique condition, just has the usual light wear which you ‘d except on an antique item.
