This is a finely hand painted Chinese export bowl from the 18th century, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, 1736-1795. We date this piece to circa 1770.
It is beautifully hand decorated with different and continuous Chinese figure scenes in different settings, having a pretty lady and a gentleman in panels, on verandas and by houses, with trees, river and hills in the background. The design is hand painted over-glaze with rich polychrome enamels of green, burnt orange, blue, magenta, yellow, and grey, all in various shades. The inner rim has a border pattern.
There is also some hand gilding in various places.
The bowl is unmarked to the base.
NOTE: I would point out that this bowl has had some professional restoration to the upper rim at some point in its history but not by us and is just as we acquired it. However still rings very well when tapped with a finger. We do not normally purchase ceramics that have undergone restoration but these 18th century Qianlong bowl with finely painted figure scenes are scarce pieces, about 250 years old and the restoration is well done. Please see all images.
Measures: 5-1/2” inches diameter (14cm)
