This handsome carved statue dates to the early 20th Century and comes from China Hong Kong. It depicts a majestic Chinese imperial guardian lion, often known in the West as a "Foo Dog". Guardian lions were originally called Shi and were first used for an aristocratic aesthetic. They were also believed to provide mythic protection. This particular piece is in a stunning blue turquoise color. The color are bright and vivid.
The curled, scale-like hair complements a ferocious grin and larger than life eyes. The lion stands as a sentinel, ready to pounce on any intruder. The base has a triangular pattern and is white hues.
It measures approximately 11-7/8” inches tall x 4-3/4”inches width and 3-1/4” inches across the base.
