This charming diminutive vintage enameled egg-shaped box was made in England by Halcyon Days. The box has a dark blue exterior and features gilt decoration with a festive congratulatory theme. The egg box is made with two sides that screw together. The top bears the words "Well done!" and has images of party streamers and pairs of champagne coupes brimming with bubbly that have been depicted toasting each other. The decor also includes champagne bottles. The base of the box echoes the motifs found on the top and pictures pairs of toasting champagne flutes in addition to the coupes.
The egg box is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The screw top is fully functional and tightens easily, keeping the contents safely inside. As a vintage item, the piece shows signs of age consisting of minor wear to the gilt decoration and measures 1.25" long, and is .875" at its widest point. The inside of the base is printed with Halcyon Days wreath mark consisting of a Royal Warrant granted by the Queen that reads "BY APPOINTMENT TO HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN SUPPLIERS OF OBJETS D ART" and "HALCYON DAYS ENAMELS MADE IN BILSTON, ENGLAND".
This Halcyon Days enamel egg-shaped box displays beautifully and would be a lovely addition to a collection of Halcyon Days pieces or to a wider grouping of enameled boxes by other makers. It is ideal for celebrating life's big moments like graduations, new jobs, and promotions or accomplishments like completing a marathon, passing a major exam or even theater opening nights. A great vintage find!
