This Victorian bar pin features a large cameo of a Bacchante executed in salmon coral. The deeply carved Bacchante has been finished with crisp facial features and long hair adorned with grape leaves and grapes. The quality of the carving is outstanding - not clumsy or heavy handed as so many pieces are. The cameo is mounted on an oval plaque attached to a slightly arched rectangular frame. The frame itself is decorated with raised fan-like motifs arranged so that they are mirror images of each other. The motifs bear a series of blue and green turquoise beads along with seed pearls in graduated sizes. The back of the pin has a tube hinge pinstem with a c-clasp.
The cameo bar pin is in very good original condition and has not been cleaned. The hinged pinstem and c-clasp are fully functional. As an antique, the piece shows signs of age consisting of two missing seed pearls on the left-hand side along with tarnish/discoloration to the metal, both of which are mentioned for accuracy. The cameo measures 1" by .5" while the pin is 1.75" in length and approximately .25" deep not including the pinstem.
This antique carved coral cameo bar pin displays beautifully and would be a fantastic addition to a collection of fine antique jewelry. An exceptional find!
