This Herend gilt trimmed porcelain table clock has been decorated in the Rothschild Bird pattern, first introduced by Herend in 1860 for the Rothschild family. The story behind the pattern is based upon Rothschild family legend in which birds found a necklace lost by Baroness Rothschild in her Vienna garden and brought it to a treetop to play with it. Porcelain decorated in the popular pattern features the two birds perched in a tree with the necklace belonging to the Baroness draped across the branch between them. The pattern also includes several colorful winged insects.

The battery operated clock has a quartz movement and is in excellent "as new" condition. The underside bears the blue overglaze Herend backstamp along with the impressed word "HEREND" and incised shape/pattern number 8085. The foot is hand painted with shape and decor codes "8085-0-00/RO" along with "KF" and the number "2265". The battery has recently been replaced and the clock keeps accurate time.

The clock stands 4.25" tall and is 3.5" by 1" at the base. It is ideal for use on a desk or shelf at home or at the office.

This classic Herend Rothschild Bird clock displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a grouping of Rothschild Bird pieces or works equally well showcased on its own. A lovely vintage find!
