This unusual 1930's Royal Cauldon 14" chop plate features a transferware floral motif consisting of morning glories and foliage growing along curvilinear vines. The flowers have been hand painted in classic Imari shades of Cobalt Blue and Rust along with bright green and teal. The decoration includes gilt accents along with a gilded rim.
The chop plate is in very good condition with no cracks or repairs. The decoration is crisp and the color is vivid. As a vintage item the piece shows signs of use consisting of a few minor utensil marks which are mentioned for accuracy. It should also be noted that there are production related anomalies present commonly found in antique/vintage transferware consisting of glaze pops and frits on the rim along with minor smudges beneath the glaze which do not detract from the appearance of the piece and are mentioned for accuracy. The underside bears a Cauldon backstamp reading "Royal Cauldon England Est 1774 MADE IN ENGLAND" along with impressed factory marks including "B 14". The chop plate weighs in at 3lbs 10oz.
This lovely Cauldon chop plate displays beautifully and would be a wonderful addition to a collection of English Imari. An elegant piece perfect for use or display.
